ATLANTA -- 35-year-old Atlanta Police officer Reggie Robinson is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot in the face on Friday night.
The suspect, 20-year-old Frank Nance, was arrested and charged in the shooting. He faces charges of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a firearm by convicted felon, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and Cocaine Possession, as reported by Sgt. Greg Lyon.
On Saturday afternoon, Carlos Campos said in a statement on behalf of the APD, "Any officer involved shooting is investigated by the Office of Professional Standards to ensure all department policies and procedures were followed. Any injuries sustained by the suspect would be part of that investigation. Further comment is not possible due to the ongoing investigation."
Earlier on Saturday, Nance's first appearance before a Fulton County Magistrate judge was waived.
According to authorities, Robinson was shot near the Krispy Kreme on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard after he spotted what he believed to be a drug deal.
Officials say the shooting happened after Robinson confronted the suspects making the supposed transaction after which a foot pursuit ensued.
Officer Robinson is listed in stable condition and will be interviewed about the incident when he is able.
