VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) -- The parents of a Gwinnett County teen found murdered in her campus dorm at Valdosta State University before the Thanksgiving break say they're concerned the police investigation has grown cold.
"The person who did this got to enjoy Christmas, New Year's eve, New Year's day," Jasmine's stepfather James Jackson. "We have no closure. She's gone."
It's been more than six weeks since students discovered 17-year-old Jasmine Benjamin dead in the study hall of her campus dorm.
Police in Valdosta say they're treating the death as a homicide.
Valdosta State officials said in a statement that based on new information from the medical examiner, the case is now "an active criminal investigation."
Valdosta police Cmdr. Brian Childress said police are treating the case as a homicide.
He said the autopsy raised more questions about the death, but declined to provide details. He said toxicology testing, which involves testing for possible substances in a person's body, has not yet been completed.
