ATLANTA -- Atlanta police are searching for a suspect who they believe is responsible for five separate strong arm robberies of women on the city's southwest side.
Sgt. Greg Lyon said the five crimes took place at 425 Chapel Street, a condominium complex just off Northside Drive in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood.
According to the incident reports from Lyon, the crimes occurred on March 26, August 17, October 20, December 16 and December 18, 2012.
In all five incidents, the suspect allegedly stole cell phones and purses from five different women. One victim was left unharmed, and another was beaten with a brick.
Marsha Dollar said the suspect ran up to her from behind and hit her in the face with the brick. "Once he hit me in the face I went down and he continued to beat me in the back of the head with the brick," she said.
Dollar struggled with the man until he finally wrestled her purse away from her. She said she suffered a black eye, bruises on her head and body, and a concussion. "I carry a gun now everywhere I go," Dollar said.
The suspect threatened to hit the third victim with his fist.
In the fourth robbery, the victim tried to hold onto her purse, but was unsuccessful as the suspect punched her hand, forcing her to let go.
The fifth victim also tried to hold onto her purse, but she said the suspect threw a brick at her hand, striking it. The victim ran away with her bag.
The robberies started on March 26, 2012. Allison Parker was walking to her condo when the suspect came up behind her. "He had his arm cocked back and the brick in his hand and he was running at me with it," she said.
Parker said she remember safety tactics she learned and threw her purse and cell phone in the opposite direction. It worked, she said. The suspect went for the valuables and ran. "I'm a little more hesitant to go out after dark or come home late at night," she said.
Police described the suspect as a black man around 20 - 25 years old. The man has pockmarks or acne scars on his face, has a thin build, and stands about 5'2" - 5'3" tall. In the robberies, the suspect wore a hoodie or hat.
"We're just worried that this could progress into something a little bit more so we're hoping that the public can identify this person for us," said Lt. Jeff Cantin.

A reward of up to $2,000 may be rewarded to a caller with information leading to the arrest of the suspect, according to Lyon.
