Jaytura Sweeting and Jayla Sweeting
RIVERDALE, Ga. -- Two young girls who were involved in a carjacking in Riverdale on Sunday evening are alive and safe.
The names of the girls were released Sunday night - Jaytura Sweeting, 6, and Jayla Sweeting, 5.
Scott McBridge of the Fulton Co. Police Department said the children were riding in a vehicle with their father around 6:45, when a carjacker flagged them down, asking for a ride. The incident took place on Halligan Point, near Old National Highway.
When the father refused, the suspect pulled the father out of the vehicle and held him up with a gun. The father tried to send the suspect away by screaming that there were young children in the car, but the suspect proceeded with the carjacking.
The suspect drove off with the two girls still inside. Police said the vehicle a white 2012 Jeep Wrangler 4-door hartop with a gray star on the hood. It bears Georgia tag PDA 5581.
Shortly after, the Jeep was found idling with both girls inside, but police said there was no sign of the suspect. The Jeep was found near 415 Ashington, off Ashely Downs, off Creel Road.
Police described the carjacker as a black male, around 6 feet tall, weighing around 230 pounds, and last seen wearing a red hoodie and gray shirt with red writing.
