LA GRANGE, Ga--Alcohol may be a factor in a head-on collision Friday night that killed five people in Troup County.

The two-vehicle accident happened around 6:45 pm, on West Point Road at Old West Point Road, when an Oldsmobile Cutlass, traveling at a high rate of speed, was illegally passing cars on an incline in the southbound lane. Witnesses say, headlights suddenly appeared from a Pontiac Grand Am, coming over the crest in the same lane, when the two cars collided at full speed.

According to Gordie Wright of the Georgia State Patrol, alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. Blood was taken from Willie Hooks, 28, the deceased driver of the Oldsmobile.

The other four dead were all occupants of the Pontiac Grand Am. They include Melanie Kay Lemmon, 23, Miranda Hurston, 37, 1-year-old Quamauri Harrison, and Tridarius Harrison, age unknown.

Two others in the Pontiac were injured. Jayvianna Hurston, 15, was life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Center. Shaquavious Harrison, 18 was flown to Columbus Medical Center. Their conditions are unknown.

It is believed all the victims in the Pontiac, with the exception of the driver, Ms. Lemmon, were related.
