ATLANTA -- An Atlanta police officer was involved in a shooting Wednesday afternoon.
It happened near the Westin Buckhead Atlanta in the 3300 block of Peachtree Road NE.
According to Officer John Chafee, there have been several recent thefts in the area. A sketch of a man had been released, in connection to a stolen laptop.
Chafee says the officer saw a man matching the suspect and pulled his marked patrol car up to the suspect and made contact with him.
They moved into a nearby parking deck where the officer and suspect struggled. Chaffee says during the struggle the suspect produced a handgun and the officer fired multiple times striking the suspect.
The suspect was transported to Grady Hospital where he is in stable condition.
The officer has been placed on routine administrative leave. The suspect's identity has not been confirmed
