SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Just a day after a federal appeals court paved the way for same-sex marriages, City Hall in San Francisco was filled with dozens of gay couples ready to get their marriage licenses.
Sandy Stier and Kris Perry of Berkeley, the two lead plaintiffs in the Proposition 8 case, led the way, becoming the first couple to marry in San Francisco on Friday.
On Saturday morning, long lines were seen stretching down the lobby of City Hall as city officials held weekend hours to let couples tie the knot during San Francisco's annual Pride weekend.
Friday's decision by the court lifted a 4-year freeze on the issue.
