ATLANTA -- In addition to the full closure of the North Marietta Loop exit ramps and bridge at Interstate 75 all weekend, additional construction will lead to backups in a number of areas around Metro Atlanta this weekend.

Starting Friday night and continuing for the next five weekends, the Georgia Department of Transportation says they will be closing the North Marietta Loop from Cobb Parkway (US 41) to the Gresham Road/Wallace Road intersection to make concrete repairs to the bridge at I-75.

"The I-75/North Loop area in Cobb County is likely going to be a very slow ride all weekend," said GDOT Metro District Construction Engineer Shun Pringle. "The surface streets around the North loop interchange will be very crowded. Look for an alternate route is the best advice I can give."
Traffic will be detoured around the area, and traffic will not be allowed to exit from either direction of I-75 onto the North Loop. The closures will take place each weekend, from Friday evening at 9 through Monday morning at 5. The North Loop interchange will be open through the week.
Other Cobb County construction will include concrete repairs along I-75 southbound from Chastain Road to Ga. Route 5. Those lane closures will take place from 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. each night.
In the city, motorists in the Buford Highway-Sidney Marcus Boulevard-Cheshire Bridge Road-Lenox Road area will continue to contend with construction surrounding the I-85/Ga. 400 interchange project.
Single lane closures will be in effect off and on through the weekend for drain clearing and shoulder sweeping on I-285, I-75 and I-20 around the Metro area.
Single lane closures will be found on I-20 EB from Ga. 61 in Villa Rica to Ga. 142 in Covington for drain cleaning and shoulder sweeping. Closures for the installation of new overhead signage will happen on I-75 in both directions from Langford Parkway to Mount Paran Road.
Street closures will be in effect in Midtown Atlanta Sunday for the annual Atlanta Pride parade.
Finally, the ramp from I-85 in both directions to 17th Street will be closed Saturday for a 5K Walk/Run at Atlantic Station.
