The family of a Bartow County man is demanding the Sheriff's Office launch an investigation into what they say is a case of police brutality caught on tape.
Police arrested Michael West at his Emerson auto repair shop last Tuesday for charges of theft, obstruction of police officer and taking a police's officer's weapon.
But West's family says a video from his business tells a very different story. In the video, West walks down the stairs of his business with his hands raised in an apparent attempt to surrender. Next, West can be seen lying flat on the floor as officers file past him.
West's daughter Angela says the video captures one of the officers stomping on her father's head as he walks past the prone suspect.
A booking photo obtained by 11Alive News shows West with his head bandaged and his face bruised.
The Bartow County Sheriff's Office says the arrest was handled by the agency's drug task force.
West's attorney tells 11Alive that he's formally requesting an internal investigation into the arrest.
The Sheriff's has not commented publicly on the case.
