Fall Colors Peaking in North Georgia

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Minggu, 03 November 2013 | 15.20

The tree color in north Georgia is peaking this weekend.  We are getting some great pictures from viewers of the beautiful leaves with plenty of bright colors!  The rain from Friday and today's wind knocked a few of the leaves off of the trees.  There are still plenty of leaves on the trees to pop some bright colors.  The map shows the north part of the state now in "peak" color this weekend.  The area south of that is near peak that extends into metro Atlanta.

In north Georgia, we are hearing about plenty of bright yellows from the Poplar and Walnut trees.  There is also a lot of bright red from the Dogwoods and Sourwoods.  Maple is producing plenty of orange in the tree canopy of north Georgia.  Those bright colors are visible in the mountains and in the valleys.

The peak colors extend across all of north Georgia from Rabun County in northeast Georgia over to Cloudland in NW Georgia.  It extends as far south as Pickens, Dawson and northern Hall counties.  The breeze from today will continue to die down.  The weather for Sunday will help to continue the leaf transformation.  Bright sunny afternoons and chilly nights help to push these fall colors.

We are getting some great pictures from our viewers.  Keep sending them in to photos@11Alive.com.

Here's a look at some recent blog posts about the fall color change.
