The one thing Donna Green has never lost is the hope that she will someday be reunited with the son stolen from her when he was just five days old.
Raymond Lamar Green was kidnapped from his mother's apartment in Southwest Atlanta on November 6, 1978. Neither the infant nor his kidnapper were ever seen again.
"Everything she told me about herself was a lie," Donna Green said. "She was there to steal a baby."
Green says she met the kidnapper at the maternity ward at Grady Memorial Hospital. The woman called herself 'Lisa Morris' and claimed she was at the hospital visiting her sister who had recently given birth.
A few days after she was discharged from the hospital, Green says the woman showed up unexpectedly at her apartment in Southwest Atlanta. During her visit, Donna says she went upstairs to take a quick shower leaving the newborn with her brother and Morris. But Green says when she returned downstairs, her brother had fallen asleep and Morris and the baby were gone.
Police never located Raymond. Years later, Green went back to Atlanta Police to request a copy of his case file only to learn it too was lost.
"I don't know where the file is," Atlanta Police Lt. Paul Guerrucci said. "All I can say is agency's file retention program has changed a lot since those days.
Lt. Guerrucci concedes the department was forced to launch a brand-new investigation into the decades old case. At 11Alive's urging, Atlanta Police arranged to have G.B.I. sketch artist Kelly Lawson work on new sketches of the suspect as well as an age progression of what the woman might look like today.
