ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Falcons mascot issued an apology on Twitter following an offensive tweet he posted following the ASFP Suicide Prevention Walk on Sunday afternoon.

The tweet, which has since been deleted, read:

"Had a good time at the #ood suicide prevention walk today. I may need to go back if out season continues the way it is.."

Freddie Falcon posted that tweet following the Falcons 34-10 loss against the Panters in Charlotte. The Falcons, who were one game away from the Super Bowl, last season, have been widely criticized by fans all season due to their steadily declining 2-6 win-loss record.

A spokesperson from American Foundation for Suicide Prevention issued a statement, in reference to the tweet, saying:

"For the more than 1,000 survivors of suicide loss who participated in today's walk, suicide prevention is no laughing matter. We hope everyone who joined us today, including Freddie, support our vision for a world without suicide.

Recently, there have been a string of NFL suicides, including former Atlanta Falcons safety Ray Easterling. We'd love to provide a suicide prevention training for our hometown NFL team and see them more involved in this topic, which claims more than 1,000 Georgian lives each year."

Freddie Falcon apologized for the "inappropriate and insensitive" tweet on his Twitter account.

Next week, the Falcons play at the Georgia Dome against the Seattle Seahawks.
