Officer struck in funeral procession

An off duty officer working a funeral procession was involved in an accident Saturday morning on I-285. 

Jimmy Smith, a Hapeville officer, was transported to Grady Hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition. According to authorities, Smith suffered a compound fracture to one of his legs. 

Preliminary investigation reveals Smith's motorcycle collided with a vehicle involved in the funeral procession, ejecting the officer from the motorcycle, according to Officer John Chafee of APD. 

No others were injured in the accident. The accident remains under investigation.
