Juanita Calvert, 86, of Marietta
MARIETTA, Ga -- Police are putting a lot of effort into solving the murder of an 86 year old woman. Juanita Calvert, who could barely see, was shot and killed for whatever reason that will never make sense.
Calvert's three granddaughters drove from Kentucky to Marietta the day after learned their grandmother was shot to death. "It really hasn't sunk in completely yet," said Carol Brasher before she quickly broke into a sob. "It kind of has now, since I've been in there (her grandmother's house). I just hope that someone comes forward."
The 86 year old woman was found dead Tuesday morning by her husband's caretaker. Her husband, Phillip Van Zandt, was in the house but could not help police with the identity of the suspect. Van Zandt is bedridden.

"Any information, no matter whether you think it's nothing that matters or not, it might be the missing piece that the police are missing," said granddaughter Lori Waide.
Calvert and her husband have been victims of a crime before. Last May Antoine Davis, a former caretaker, was arrested for stealing money from the couple, taking advantage of Calvert's poor eyesight, according to court documents. Davis is accused of having Calvert sign checks over to him for thousands of dollars.
Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin said police are not ruling out anyone as a suspect. "That's all part of the investigation," he said about the prior incident. "We're not leaving any stone unturned and everything's being taken into account for this."
Another granddaughter, Sherry Baird, said she was stunned when she received a text from her sister that their grandmother had been murdered. "That's just hideous," she said. "To think that there are people out there that would shoot an old lady in her home."
Calvert's granddaughters said they will take her body back to Kentucky where most of her family is from. They said her husband, Phillip Van Zandt, will probably go into a nursing home.
