GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. -- A south Georgia banker accused of embezzling more than $21 million was arrested Tuesday during a traffic stop near Brunswick.

47-year-old Aubrey Lee Price became director of Montgomery Bank and Trust in southern Georgia after a company he controlled bought a controlling interest in the bank's stock.  In December 2011 Price took control of investing the bank's capital.

United States Attorney Edward J. Tarver for the Southern District of Georgia says Price was indicted in July of 2012 after Price apparently fraudulently wired the bank's funds to accounts he personally controlled at other financial institutions.

According to an FBI press release, before Tuesday's arrest, Price was last seen in June 2012, boarding a ferry terminal in Key West, Florida, bound for Fort Myers

Price disappeared after writing a letter to acquaintances and regulators that he had lost a large amount of money, and that he planned to take his own life.

Price was arrested by deputies from the Glynn County Sheriff's Department on Interstate 95 in Brunswick, Georgia, for a vehicle and traffic violation.

Price is due in court January 2.  He's charged with one count of bank fraud and faces additional charges in New York.
