Gwinnett Police investigated an officer-involved shooting where a suspect was killed and an officer was hurt on Sat., Jan. 4, 2014.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - An officer was injured and a suspect killed in a shooting incident in unincorporated Lawrenceville Saturday afternoon.
Police were summoned at 4:06 p.m. to a report of a person stabbed in the 3600 block of Willow Wood Way, but found no victim or suspect when they arrived. Minutes later, a second call came in about three blocks away, in the 3800 block of Smokemist Trace.
When officers arrived to check the residence, officers found what they called a burglary in progress. Police said shots were exchanged, with an officer being shot in the leg, and a suspect killed.
Police said that a short time later, the stabbing victim returned to the Willow Wood Way address, and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Detectives said the stabbing was related to the burglary.
Investigators said the shooting suspect was attending a party at the Willow Wood Way address. They said the stabbing occurred at some point during the party. The suspect fled the party, they said, and ended up at the Smokemist Trace address, where the confrontation with police happened.
Police said they are presently withholding the identity of the suspect.
