SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- With colder weather on the way, a synagogue in Sandy Springs took a proactive approach to helping others stay warm.
After hymns and worship at Temple Sinai, members formed an assemble line of sorts as members manufactured 400 scarves and made 1000 sandwiches for the homeless in about an hour's time.
"For the men's division of the Union mission downtown," explained Rabbi Elana PerryRachel Katz is a little girl who knows what it feels like to be cold.
"You're not that happy and you just feel like you want to go inside and snuggle up in a blanket," she said.
When her dad asked if she wanted to help her church help the homeless she said yes.
"it makes me feel happy that they can finally get food," explained Katz.
"We know there is a great need in the community for food and articles of clothing, especially in this season," Perry said.
The plan was to put together 1000 sandwiches and 400 hundred sandwiches in a couple of hours but about 150 many people helping out it didn't take that long.
They're called the day Social Action Sunday at the synagogue, a monthly effort to lift spirit of those left out in the cold.
"It's really so heart warming to see so many people come out for this," Perry said.
