Fairburn, GA-- A member of a tree crew died Saturday afternoon after what police describe as a tragic accident.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Tim June, 21, of Roswell.
Sgt. Anthony Bazydlo said June was about 50 to 60 feet off the ground. He successfully cut one limb, but another snapped back and hit him.
"According to a witness as he was struck he immediately ceased movement. His partner called 911 and our emergency crews responded to the scene," said Sgt. Bazydlo.
Police say the combination of blunt force trauma and the fact that he got tangled in his safety line caused his death.
According to the CDC each year, approximately 36,000 people are treated in hospitals for injuries from using chain saws.
On its website it warns of so called "spring poles": trees or branches that have gotten bent, twisted or hung up that can spring back once other branches are cut.
