ATLANTA -- Police say when three armed men burst into a home on Catherine Street just before 12:30 Thursday morning, a 12-year-old boy fled to the attic and called 911.

Responding officers spotted two men running out the back door. Police believe they were tipped off by a woman waiting nearby in a get away car.

Atlanta Police Capt. Adam Lee III said as they ran, the men dropped stolen purses, one containing $500, a pistol and an assault-style rifle. Lee said those two got away.

The third suspect jumped into the waiting car driven by the woman, and sped away, leading officers on a chase down Interstate 85 at speeds up to 110 mph.

Near the intersection of Highway 138 and West Campbellton Street in Fairburn, the chase ended and police arrested the driver. The male passenger fled into nearby woods. A tracking dog was brought to the scene, but the suspect escaped.

While the suspects were terrorizing the occupants of the Catherine Street home, the mother of the boy who called 911 was struck above her right eye with a pistol. No one else in the house was injured.
