Southern Polytechnic State University
MARIETTA, Ga. -- The campus of Southern Polytechnic State University was placed on lockdown Tuesday evening, after shots were fired near a class building.
Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin said the altercation happened around 6pm involving two men. It happened in a parking lot behind the school's Engineering Technology Center.
Police are releasing very few details about the two men, only that one shot at the other and both left the scene before police arrived. Police won't say whether the two are students, or if the intended victim was actually hit.
Witnesses heard the gunshots and called 911. Marietta and Cobb police responded and placed the campus on lockdown; no students were allowed to enter or leave campus. The lockdown was lifted by 7:30pm.
Baldwin called the lockdown a "precaution" and said the campus was never in danger. Officers blocked campus entrances and searched buildings for nearly an hour and a half before ending the lockdown.
Officers found the victim around 9:30 Tuesday night, but declined to give any further details about his condition.
