ATLANTA -- An Atlanta Police officer Reggie Robinson is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot in the face Friday night.

Reggie Robinson, 35, was shot near the Krispy Kreme on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard after he spotted what he believed to be a drug deal.

The suspect, 20-year-old Frank Nance, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, firearm possession and cocaine possession, according to Atlanta Police Sgt. Greg Lyon.

On Saturday afternoon, Atlanta Police spokesman Carlos Campos said in a statement on behalf of the APD: "Any officer involved shooting is investigated by the Office of Professional Standards to ensure all department policies and procedures were followed. Any injuries sustained by the suspect would be part of that investigation. Further comment is not possible due to the ongoing investigation."

Earlier on Saturday, Nance's first appearance before a Fulton County Magistrate judge was waived.

Atlanta Police spokeswoman Kim Jones said Monday that Robinson is still in the ICU at Grady Memorial Hospital. He will be interviewed about the incident when he is able.

Due to the graphic nature of Frank Nance's mugshot, 11Alive has chosen not to show it on air or online at this time.
