ALPHARETTA, Ga -- There was only one homicide all last year in the city of Alpharetta. On Monday, January 28, 2013, one month into the new year that number was matched when a man was shot and killed after answering the door.

Alpharetta police identified the victim as Zachary Rose, 22, of Canton. They said he was shot once in the stomach and was found in the doorway of a condominium. Friends said Rose was visiting a co-worker who lives at Whitestone Ridge.

Rose celebrated his 22nd birthday on Saturday, January 26, 2013. Jerad Bartlett was there to share it with the friend he has known since they met at Woodstock High School. Two days later Bartlett would learn his friend was killed. "Tuesday morning I woke up and I had text messages and phone calls from my friends and I didn't believe it," he said.

Then he went on Facebook. "Everyone was talking about it and his brother John said 'Why my brother?' and I just crumbled," he said.

Bartlett said he and Rose were part of the skate board crowd in high school. Later they would work together at a dog training company. He said Zach loved cars and dogs and everybody loved him. "This kid is the only one of my friends or at least one of the few that literally had no enemies," Bartlett said.

Two days after he was murdered police arrested Jerad Terel Owens, age 22, and charged him with murder, armed robbery, burglary, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

They are still looking for Shane Demetrice Woods, age 22, also known as "Yung Slim ABG". The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Woods.

Bartlett said Rose's family is struggling to pay for a funeral and he has set up a donation page on his company's web site, Alpha Nine Dog Training.

While he prepares for his friends funeral Bartlett said he is angry. "Not only at the fact that he's walking the streets and he's already killed somebody before, but angry at the fact that he hasn't been caught," he said.

Anyone who knows where Woods is should contact the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.
