COVINGTON, Ga -- Five-year-old Morgan Steward wears a crisp yellow shift and striped tie. This is no ordinary day.

Smiling faces and big applause, this is no ordinary Covington City Council meeting.

Today, Morgan's dream is coming true.

Morgan suffers from spinal muscular atrophy.  It's a genetic condition that affects his muscle movement. Despite the difficulties, he's had one mission. "It's just always been my dream to be a police officer," he explains to 11Alive photojournalist Tyson Paul.

Covington officers saw the families post on Facebook.  It shows Morgan holding a homemade sign that reads, "I am an SMA type 2. My wish is to be a police officer." So, they made it their mission to make it happen.

Monday night, at the Covington City Council meeting, he was sworn in as a police officer.

Officer Morgan also got a uniform, a real badge, and the key to the city.

Now that he's officially sworn in, Officer Morgan will lead the Christmas parade this weekend.  He'll ride front-and-center in a police vehicle.

"Thank you for making my dreams come true," Morgan said after the ceremony. It was hard to say which smile was bigger: Morgan's or the Police chief's.

"That was probably the highlight of my career," Chief Stacey Cotton.
