DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities have confirmed one death in a small plane crash near Dawsonville.
The incident happened around 7:10 p.m. on Monday evening.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the single-engine Piper Malibu aircraft went down on Auraria Road near GA 400.
Authorities are on the scene and have located some fragments from the accident but have not yet located the actual aircraft. Officials say there was only one person on board, at the time of the crash.
The plane was headed to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport from Morristown, NJ Municipal Airport. Air traffic controllers lost contact with the pilot shortly after 7 p.m.
FAA authorities say the aircraft is registered to a "Georgia entity" but the pilot's identity has not been released, at this time.
No further information was immediately available.
