New smartphone app targets child porn fugitives

(WXIA) -- A new smartphone app, just unveiled by the federal Homeland Security Investigations, enlists the public's help in finding child-porn fugitives.

The app, called Operation Predator, provides a live connection to the latest information about the fugitives, including their photos and other identifying information, and brief descriptions of the crimes they're accused of committing against children.

The app provides instant access to a toll-free phone number, and a message box, so people can call or write the feds anonymously if they've seen the fugitives or think they know where they are.

Operation Predator is free and currently available for iPhones, iPads and iPods, and will be available later for other operating systems.

Since 2003, Operation Predator investigations have led to the arrests of 10,000 child porn suspects, and investigators are hoping the new app will, with the public's help, lead to many more arrests.
